Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Scholarships to study neuroscience

 

Established in 2003, QBI (http://www.qbi.uq.edu.au) is situated on the St Lucia campus of UQ. It is home to more than 450 staff and students, including 41 group leaders, working across a range of disciplines, focussed on discovering the fundamental mechanisms that regulate brain development and function in health and disease.

 

Over the past decade QBI has become one of the world's leading neuroscience research institutes. It played a key role in contributing to UQ attaining the highest possible score of 5 for neuroscience, in the 2010, 2012 and 2015 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) reviews, one of only two universities in Australia to achieve this.

 

The role


Neuroscience is one of today’s most dynamic, challenging and competitive fields of biomedical research. The University of Queensland is offering a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in neuroscience through the Queensland Brain Institute. The aim of the program is to offer talented students from diverse backgrounds an alternative route into a research career in the neurosciences through provision of a solid base in a broad range of neuroscience disciplines. Students will work on independent research projects under the supervision of world-leading QBI Neuroscientists, as well as undertake neuroscience-related workshops and journal clubs.

 

The person


We invite outstanding Australian students from all academic backgrounds to apply – if you meet any of the following criteria you should consider applying:

 

  • A background in the biological, physical, or computer sciences, mathematics, psychology, or engineering.
  • A bachelor degree (Honours not essential) or other relevant higher degree.
  • Some laboratory research experience or equivalent (eg. relevant industry experience).

Remuneration
Successful candidates will receive a living allowance scholarship equivalent to AUD$27,082 per annum (2018 rate, indexed annually, tax free) and tuition fee scholarship.

Duration
Completion of the MPhil will take up to 2 years maximum (full-time only).
