Postdoctoral Fellow in gambling project
There is a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Psychosocial Science from 1 August 2018 or as soon as the appointment process has been completed after that date. The position is for a fixed-term period of four years and is affiliated with the project «Risk factors for gambling problems», funded by the Research Council of Norway. The employment period will be reduced if the successful candidate previously has been employed in this project.
The Faculty of Psychology offers professional education for psychologists, is responsible for the pedagogical training of the University of Bergen's own staff, contributes towards the pedagogical aspects of teacher training and offers degrees in a wide range of disciplines: child welfare, health promotion work, pedagogics, special education, psychology, work and organizational psychology, and speech and language therapy. The Faculty's main focus areas in respect of research are connected with health, learning, development-related research and basic research in its widest sense.
The academic activities at the Department of Psychosocial Science (ISP) are wide ranging and of a high international standard. ISP conducts research and training within a range of basic disciplines such as cognitive psychology, social psychology, development psychology, personality psychology, and within user areas such as school and tuition psychology, work and organizational psychology and social psychology. ISP has six research groups, and many employees are involved in research groups at other departments.
The successful candidate will be part of the Addiction Research Group. The research group work with topics related to both chemical and non-chemical addiction. Gambling and gaming addiction is central topics within the group and the Norwegian Competence Center for Research on Gambling and Gaming Problems is organized under the group.
About the project and work tasks: The project is funded by the Norwegian Research Council and comprises a register-based study, focusing on identifying risk factors for gambling problems. Data originates from Norsk Tipping and will be linked to several Norwegian health registries such as FD-trygd, the Norwegian Patient Registry and the Norwegian Prescription Registry. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for ordering data sets from relevant actors, organizing data and facilitating data analysis, as well as authoring and co-authoring scientific articles from the project.

About the position as Postdoctoral Fellow: The position of Postdoctoral Fellow is a fixed-term appointment with the primary objective of qualifying the appointee for work in top academic positions. The fixed-term period for this position is four years. Individuals may not be hired for more than one fixed-term period as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the same institution.
Upon appointment, applicants must submit a project proposal for the qualifying work including a work schedule. For Postdoctoral Fellow positions associated with externally financed projects, the completion of the project proposal for the qualifying work will take place in consultation with the project/center manager. It is a requirement that the project is completed in the course of the period of employment.
