Responsibilities

The Donders Centre for Cognition (DCC), part of the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. We are looking for promising candidates at the assistant professor level, which consists of a flexible division between research time and teaching-related activities. As an aspiring Principal Investigator (PI) you will be given the opportunity to set up your own independent research group, using brain stimulation as your key methodology for cognitive neuroscience research. Your research should be in line with one of the following themes of the Donders Institute:

 

 

Language and Communication;

Perception, Action and Control;

Plasticity and Memory;

Brain Networks and Neuronal Communication.

 

Your research programme is generally aimed at understanding how human sensorimotor or sociocognitive systems are organised, and how plasticity in these systems mediates complex behaviour, language, motivation, memory and control. We are looking for someone with an interdisciplinary research profile, also willing to set up collaborative research with other research groups at the Donders Institute. Applicants with research programmes that impact societal domains such as health and disease, learning and education, or technology are also encouraged to apply.

You will be expected to actively obtain research funds. Teaching will be within the School of Psychology and/or School of Artificial Intelligence. You will be teaching in the broad areas of cognitive neuroscience and biological psychology and supervise students working on their Bachelor’s and Master’s theses. The successful candidate will be embedded in the Donders Centre for Cognition (DCC) and the School of Psychology, both part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. DCC is one of the 4 centres of the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour. Cognitive neuroscience is a key topic at our university, with strong collaborating groups at the Donders Institute and the Radboud university medical center. The DCC offers excellent research facilities, such as an advanced Brain Stimulation lab, which will partly fall under your coordination. EEG, TMS and motion tracking labs, excellent access to fMRI and other neuroimaging facilities and an in-house technical workshop are also available. What we expect from you

a doctoral degree (PhD) in cognitive neuroscience (or a related discipline);

ample expertise in brain stimulation techniques;

a track record of international publications in high-ranked peer-reviewed journals;

successful in obtaining funding;

an enthusiastic teacher and experience with teaching as well as with supervising undergraduate and/or PhD students (preferably also in coordinating courses);

excellent social and collaborative skills;

a university teaching qualification (BKO) is recommended.

What we have to offer

employment: 0.8 - 1.0 FTE;

a maximum gross monthly salary of € 5,656 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 12);

in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus;

term of contract: the initial appointment is for four years, with the aim to establish an independent research group to be headed by you. After four years, depending on how you fulfil the evaluation criteria, you will be offered a position on a permanent contract;
