The Role

Casual academic staff are wanted to tutor in this undergraduate unit within Cognitive Science in Session 1, 2020. Classes for this Session run from 24 February – 5 June 2020. Typically, tutors will be asked to take on 1-3 tutorial classes per week, depending on enrolment numbers, and are expected to assist with student consultation and the marking of unit assessments and examinations. Final exam marking for this session will have to be completed between 8 June and 26 June 2020.  Some details on this unit:

COGS1000 – Introduction to Neuroscience 1 forms a 2-unit sequence with Introduction to Neuroscience 2 (COGS1005) and provides an intensive introduction to the fundamentals of modern neuroscience, with a focus on the structure and function of the human brain. Topics include neuroanatomy, neural signalling, neural control of movement, sensory processing, brain development, and higher cognitive functions. Tutorials include hands-on research activities in which students will have the opportunity to act as both researchers and experimental participants.

The tutorials for this unit are 1 hour long and offered on a weekly basis. Tutorial sessions may be held anytime throughout the day Monday - Friday. Tutorials are a mixture of hands-on research-driven learning activities with the use of the EMOTIV Epoc+ neurogaming system and other experimental methods, and seminar-like tutorials that will focus on reviewing unit content covered in lectures and the textbook. Tutors are expected to attend a full-day training session which will take place in the week before the start of the session.

About You

All interested tutors, who are available for this time period, are encouraged to register their interest. Experience tutoring in previous offering of this unit or similar units, as well as having a background in a neuroscience-related field will be looked upon favourably.
