PhD Position in Human Psychophysics and Neuroimaging University of Tubingen

Ph.D. position in Human Psychophysics and Neuroimaging (m/f/d; TV-L E13, 65%)

Faculty of Science and Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, working group of Prof. Li Zhaoping

Bewerbungsfrist : 31.12.2020

We are looking for highly skilled and motivated students to join our research group. This

Ph.D. position in Human Psychophysics and Neuroimaging (m/f/d; TV-L E13, 65%)

is to investigate the processing of sensory information (visual, auditory, tactile and olfactory) in the human brain, and the use of this information to control body movements and cognitive decisions. Possible projects include, but are not limited to, visual attention (e.g., in visual search or object recognition experiments), visual recognition/discrimination (e.g., in color vision, stereo/dichoptic vision, illusions in central and/or peripheral vision), and visual adaptation. We use a variety of techniques including eye tracking, fMRI, EEG, and other psychology and neuroimaging methods.

Responsibilities include

  • Participate in research projects such as lab and equipment set up, data collection, data analysis, writing reports and papers, and presenting at scientific conferences.
  • Assist the lab manager and work in a team for routine laboratory operations, such as planning and preparations for experiments, lab maintenance and lab procedures.
  • Assist and participate in project planning, and mentor and supervise student projects.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in neuroscience, psychology, computer science, physics or a related natural science or engineering field.
  • Experience in or ability to quickly learn techniques of human visual psychophysics, such as MATLAB programming for experiments, experimental data taking, data analysis, and paper writing.
  • Familiarity with hardware and techniques in eye tracking, EEG, TMS, and other related techniques such as carrying out fMRI experiments is highly desirable.
  • Strong command of English; knowledge of German is a plus.

Who we are

We use a multidisciplinary approach to investigate sensory and sensory-motor transforms in the brain (www.lizhaoping.org). Our approaches consist of both theoretical and experimental techniques including human psychophysics, animal behavior, imaging, electrophysiology and computational modelling. One part of our group is located in the University, in the Center for Integrative Neurosciences (CIN), and the other part is in the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics as the Department for Sensory and Sensorimotor Systems. This job opening is for the CIN working group. The position (salary level TV-L E13, 65%) is for three years. For further information, please contact Prof. Li Zhaoping.

Your application

Please send your complete application documents in English (cover letter, CV, copies of degrees and transcripts with translations if applicable,  and  contact  information for at least three references) electronically as a single PDF-file to Prof. Li Zhaoping (jobs.lispam prevention@tuebingen.mpg.de). Applications arriving  before December 31, 2020  will  receive full  consideration,  and applications  arriving  after December 31,  2020  will  be  considered until  the position is filled.
