The Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology is currently inviting applications for the following position:

Up to 2 Junior Research Group Leaders (m/f/d; 100%, E 14 TV-L ) or 2 Postdoctoral Researchers (m/f/d; 100%, E 13 TV-L1)

for 3 years (+ possible 3 year extension) in the field of Randomized Controlled Field Trials in Education.

We are seeking outstanding and enthusiastic researchers who have strong passion to reshape the landscape of research on education and will contribute to the future development of our main research field Educational Effectiveness. We are looking for talented researchers from a broad range of perspectives and skills. As such, applicants can come from any of the following fields (or related fields): Psychology, Psychometrics/Data Science, Education, Economics and Sociology. We especially give priority to researchers having expertise in the design and analysis of randomized field trials in education.

The position comes with a fixed-term contract for 3 years with the possibility for extension for additional 3 years. The expected start date is until mid-2021 but we are flexible and committed to accommodating candidates’ individual circumstances. There is the expectation to participate in the institute's own postdoctoral academy PACE (Tübingen Postdoctoral Academy for Research on Educa-tion) which offers further training, coaching, and mentoring at postdoctoral level. You will also be given the opportunity to join the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network (www.lead.uni-tuebingen.de) to develop cross-faculty collaborative network of researchers working on research on education.

The position is part of the institute’s main research field Educational Effectiveness that pursues a research program focusing on the evaluation the effects and effectiveness of educational interventions and institutions with randomized controlled field trials and quasi-experimental designs.  The Hector Research Institute is a nationally and internationally leading research center in education sciences and psychology. Our interdisciplinary team works in a well-equipped building close to the historic old town of Tübingen, Germany. Traditionally, research at the Hector Research Institute investigates determinants of successful teaching and learning processes using large scale assessments, longitudinal studies, lab experiments, and randomized controlled field trials. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the substantive and methodological development of research on educational effectiveness at the Hector Research Institute. Thematically the main focus will be on the design, implementation and analysis of pioneering Randomized Controlled Field Trials in schools including the development of logic/change models and assessment of treatment fidelity (including the further development of statistical methods). The successful candidate can also draw on data from existing and ongoing trials and evaluation studies for secondary data analyses. The successful candidate is expected to design and implement studies together with researchers at the Hector Research Institute, collect and analyze data, and write manuscripts. The teaching load is anticipated to be one course per semester. 

The successful candidate holds an excellent PhD in Psychology, Psychometrics/Data Science, Education, Economics and Sociology (or will have obtained one by the start date of the position) and has a visible track record (e.g., publication and third-party funding experience) in the fields specified above. A visible commitment to research transparency is a good bonus. Most importantly, the successful candidate should demonstrate (1) solid methodological skill set (e.g., experience with the design and analysis of randomized field studies, and (2) substantive experience with or a strong wish for interdisciplinary research project(s) as well as a strong motivation and open-mindedness with respect to building interdisciplinary links with education sciences.
