The postdoctoral scholar selected for this position will primarily focus on the Young Adult Court (YAC) study of Orange County, which is a randomized controlled trial of a specialized court designed for Transitional-Aged-Youth (18 to 25 years old) in Orange County. The YAC is a collaboration between the Defense Attorney, the District Attorney, Probation Officers, the Judge, the Orangewood Foundation, and the University of California, Irvine (https://www.occourts.org/directory/collaborative-courts/YoungAdultCourtSummary.pdf). Dr. Elizabeth Cauffman and her research team are evaluating whether young men processed through the YAC have better long-term outcomes (reduced recidivism; positive mental and physical health; positive socioeconomic) than young men who are processed through the traditional courts. The postdoctoral scholar selected for this position will also be involved with the Crossroads Study, which was designed to identify the long-term outcomes of youth involved with the juvenile justice system (https://sites.uci.edu/crossroadsinfo/), as well as the Road to Reentry Study, which is another randomized controlled trial examining whether developmentally-appropriate programming in a jail setting can reduce recidivism and promote positive outcomes among young adult incarcerated in an Orange County jail. Dr. Cauffman and the Laboratory are seeking a highly-motivated individual with quantitative experience in various types analytic techniques appropriate for longitudinal data. We are also seeking an individual who is comfortable writing and using syntax to merge, clean, and code data from a variety of sources.
