Postdoctoral Researcher in Body-mind Interactions After Stroke Catholic University of Leuven
The Neuropsychology Lab led by Prof. Céline Gillebert and the ARIA Lab led by Prof. Adalberto Simeone are looking for a motivated postdoc to work on an FWO funded research project investigating the interplay between spatial attention and body position. In this project, we aim to better understand the egocentric reference frame (head-, trunk- or eye-centred) in which spatial attention operates using behavioural experiments in immersive virtual reality. In addition, we aim to investigate the neural underpinnings of spatial attention and its interaction with body rotations using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in healthy individuals and voxel-based lesion-symptom mapping in stroke patients. This project may improve diagnostic and rehabilitation tools for spatial attention impairments after stroke (such as hemispatial neglect) and can increase our fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of spatial attention. The project involves a collaboration between Prof. Céline Gillebert, Dr. Hanne Huygelier and Prof. Adalberto Simeone. The research group of Céline Gillebert (www.neuropsychologylab.be), including Dr. Hanne Huygelier, investigates attention in healthy individuals and patients with acquired brain injury using several research techniques such as fMRI, voxel-based and connectome-based Lesion Symptom Mapping ,and computational modelling. Research projects within this group range from fundamental behavioral and neuro-imaging research to translational work to improve clinical neuropsychological practice. Our research group belongs to the department of Brain & Cognition (https://ppw.kuleuven.be/bc) and is a member of the Leuven Brain Institute (https://www.kuleuven.be/brain-institute). The research group of Adalberto Simeone (https://aria.cs.kuleuven.be/) is based in the Department of Computer Science at the KU Leuven and is specifically focused on 3D interaction and virtual reality. Both departments are located in the center of Leuven, a vibrant university town which is only a 25-minute commute from the centre of Brussels and its international airport.
