Research Associate in Language Development and Psycholinguistics University of Cambridge

Applications are invited for a 36-month long Research Associate position in the University of Cambridge, working with Professor Ianthi Tsimpli on a project looking at "Reading and Listening Comprehension in multilingual children and adults". The project aims to investigate the effects of language abilities (including prosody and syntax) in L1 and L2 reading and listening comprehension in multilingual children and adults. Responsibilities of the successful candidate include but are not limited to experimental design on Psycholinguistics using eye-tracking and EEG methodology. Experience with cognitive control tasks (e.g., working memory, inhibitory control or switching processes) will be an advantage. The project will also require the post holder to take part in paper/proposal/document/report writing and symposium/conference presentations of research findings as well as supervision of PhD research. The project will take place in the Section of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (Testing Suite) at the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages, and will involve collaborations with the larger community of researchers working on Multilingualism, Linguistics, Psychology and Education within the University of Cambridge. This arrangement provides an excellent environment for research and career development, as the post holder will benefit from the expertise of a multidisciplinary project. Candidates will have completed (or about to be awarded) a Ph.D. in a relevant field such as Applied and Experimental Linguistics / Psycholinguistics and will be able to demonstrate an excellent track record of independent research and strong publications. Essential skills include: Design of online psycholinguistic tasks, experience of data collection carrying out language assessments and running eye-tracking and/or EEG experiments with children and adults, excellent statistical skills by analysing and modelling behavioural and/or electrophysiological data, and proven collaborative/communication/networking skills.
