DescriptionEmory General Job Description: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.
Department Specific Job Description: Postdoctoral position for Neuroimaging Research in nonhuman primates at Emory University A full-time postdoctoral position is open at Emory University (Division of Developmental and Cognitive Neuroscience, Emory National Primate Research Center –ENPRC/EPC) to conduct brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) research of long-term effects of stress in nonhuman primates. Studies involve analyses of long-term impact of early life stress on brain circuits involved in cognitive executive function, stress/emotional regulation and reward during adulthood (funded by NIH/NIA and NIH/NIDA), including focus on stress-induced accelerated aging processes.
The studies and position involve processing and analysis of brain imaging data, including structural magnetic resonance (MRI), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), resting state functional connectivity MRI (rs-fcMRI) and MR Spectroscopy (MRS) datasets using in-house pipelines as well as open-source software. These brain data will be integrated with emotional, stress and cognitive measures in the same animals.
Preferred Requirements: PhD degree in Neuroscience (including Behavioral/Cognitive Neuroscience), and/or Biomedical Engineering, Psychology, Computer Science, MR Physics or related fields and research experience in processing and analysis of brain MRI/DTI/rs-fcMRI/MRS data (image registration, skull-stripping, atlas building, quality control), is required, preferably applied to the nonhuman primate brain. Additional programming/scripting and computational skills, experience in Machine Learning and neuroscience/neuroanatomy knowledge are highly recommended. Preferred languages are Unix/Linux scripting, Shell scripts, Python, Docker, MATLAB, R. Experience using MRI software packages such as FSL, ANTS, AFNI, FreeSurfer, CIVET (and related programs), as well as with Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) formatting will be strongly considered. Independence, previous experience and interest in projects involving multidisciplinary Behavioral/Cognitive Neuroscience and inter-institutional collaborations will be highly valued.
