Research Assistant Yale University for Psychology and Research Staff United States

Position Focus:

The individual will provide research and organizational support to a Professor or Psychology whose research focuses on the establishment of biological and environmental predictors of psychiatric illness risk Duties include, but are not limited to subject recruitment, data acquisition using behavioral and neuroimaging techniques (MRI), data entry, coding, database management, some analyses, overseeing subject reimbursements, and lab management (e.g., ordering equipment and supplies, scheduling meetings, website maintenance).

Essential Duties

1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments.

2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports.

3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities.

4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures.

5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff.

6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Proven ability at testing human participants. Comfort and proven ability to establish rapport with research participants. Extremely comfortable working with people and sensitive to working with clinical populations.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Excellent written and oral verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a team.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Accuracy, reliability, careful attention to detail, and ability to multi-task are crucial. Excellent organizational and integration skills are important.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

General computing proficiency including Mac & Windows OS, Microsoft Office, Photoshop & Illustrator, and proven ability with basic computing packages such as MS Word and Excel.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Demonstrated ability with Unix commands, brain imaging software, and programming cognitive tasks in EPrime, Psychopy, Psychtoolbox, or similar.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

B.A./B.S. in Cognitive Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or related fields. Experience testing human participants, programming experience (python preferred), optimization experience in MATLAB or otherwise, enthusiastic about a science or medical career, a comfort with technical skills, a high degree of motivation and self-sufficiency.
