Research Assistant in Behavioural and Computational Neuroscience

A position exists, for a Research Assistant in the Department of Engineering, to work on behavioural and computational neuroscience.

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The Research Assistant will be involved in designing, conducting and analysing cognitive, neuroimaging and neurophysiological experiments on humans (adults only). Some experiments will be online and involve participants with chronic back and neck pain. The RA will join the Nox Lab, led by Dr Flavia Mancini and supported by the Medical Research Council.

The aim of the project is to understand how the human brain learns to interpret aversive information (such as pain signals) and how these interpretations shape the brain response to negative, harmful states. The basic idea behind the project is that brain computations shape how much pain we feel. We want to understand the brain processes that help people cope with pain and those that affect recovery, potentially leading to the development of chronic pain.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are: * Bachelors or master degree in neuroscience, physics/engineering, medicine or related subject. * Research skills in the field of behavioural or computational neuroscience. * Excellent interpersonal and communication/writing skills, and ability to communicate well with both a multidisciplinary scientific team and patient populations. * Good coding skills * Experience of neuroimaging data analysis (desirable) * Excellent organisational and management skills, ability to time manage and coordinate complex experimental projects. * Being able to work independently.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
