The Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), established in 2003 under the leadership of Founding Director Professor Perry Bartlett, has developed a reputation as one of the world's leading neuroscience research institutes.  Part of the University of Queensland, the Institute is home to over 450 scientific staff led by 41 Group Leaders. 

To focus on important areas, QBI has established three Institute Centres: The Science of Learning Centre; The Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research and; The Centre for Neurogenetics and Statistical Genomics. The importance of QBI's research is demonstrated through publications in the most prestigious international journals and a very high success rate in NHMRC and ARC grants.

About This Opportunity

The Scott Sullivan Research Fellowship is a joint position between the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) and the Centre for Clinical Research (UQCCR) at The University of Queensland. It is supported by the generous philanthropic support of the MND and Me Foundation and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation.

In addition to enhancing the existing collaborations between the clinical and basic sciences at the RBWH, UQCCR and QBI. The primary purpose of this position is to develop a translational research program that bridges the clinical and basic sciences, with the ultimate aim of slowing the progression and/or curing Motor Neuron Disease. 

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

You should have a strong record of achievement in the neurosciences, especially in the areas of translational research – experience in areas such as molecular genetics and biomedical sciences, and experience in handling human samples may also be an advantage.

In addition to four years post-doctoral experience in a field relevant to MND, you should have a strong research focus and a clinical interface, dealing with MND Patients. A PhD in the area of  neuroscience, molecular genetics, biomedical science or related discipline is a requirement for the Fellowship with evidence of your contribution to research through publication of scholarly papers and successful external grant applications.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

This is a full-time, fixed term position at Academic level B.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $97,590.98 - $115,888.95 plus super of up to 17%.
