The Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases (CNMD) provides comprehensive NHS clinical services for over 5,000 patients per year, which include a range of specialist neuromuscular clinics and nationally commissioned services. It provides the largest clinical neuromuscular services for children and adults in Europe. It represents a UK national centre of excellence, setting standards for rare disease management and offering training opportunities for specialist clinicians and clinical scientists.

Our subspecialty services include mitochondrial disease, muscle channelopathy, inclusion body myositis, Kennedy’s and motor neurone disease, McArdle’s, neuromuscular transition, acquired and inherited myasthenia, inflammatory/infectious/inherited and haem-onc neuropathy.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Research Fellow to join the Centre. This fellowship offers clinical training in genomic medicine of neuromuscular disease, focusing on primary mitochondrial disorders. You will gain experience in inpatient consultations and outpatient care for patients with suspected mitochondrial disease, supervised by renowned neurologists and academics. The post emphasises developing independent clinical and genomics skills and involves multidisciplinary collaboration with various specialities.

As part of the fellowship, you will be expected to register for a PhD at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology focusing on the translation of advanced omic technologies to primary mitochondrial disease.

An honorary contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.

The post is available immediately and is funded by the NHS for 12 months in the first instance.

You will be a Registered Medical Practitioner licensed to practise in the UK and have completed your CMT/IMT training and MRCP (or paediatric equivalent). You will have experience in clinical genomics or neurology combined with an understanding of research methodology, the NHS clinical governance framework, and clinical audit experience. In addition, you will be able to provide clinical supervision and a commitment to research and quality in the research process.

This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.

The role is offered in the range of £43,619 - £67,652 per annum including London Allowance, on the CL, JDPS, or StR scale, dependent on NHS contract and/or stage of clinical training.
