Job Summary
 
About the role
This is a critical research support role to Professor Vissel as it relates specifically to starting and building the stem cell and/or cell/circuit plasticity component of the initiative.
 

The role involves the conception, design and performance of novel projects both in vivo and in vitro.
You will also contribute positively to the profile of the Centre in this area through publications, invited talks, international and domestic collaborations and utilise a cross-disciplinary approach to achieve research goals. You will potentially also contribute to growing a research sub-group in this endeavour.

 

About you


You will have extensive experience in neuroscience and in stem cell research and/or cell/circuit plasticity. Movement disorder (spinal cord injury or Parkinson’s) or hippocampal research experience is strongly preferred, but any aspect of establishing cutting-edge neural stem cell biology in neuroscience, including iPS cells, preferably with CRISPR-CAS9 experience, will be considered.

You will also have:


• Willingness to work as part of a team;
• A strong commitment to excellence in quality and standard of research, leadership and management responsibilities;
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills;
• Experience as either a named investigator or a major role in writing, research proposal submissions to external funding bodies; first author publications; and supervisory experience consistent with these requirements;
• A research track record in neuroscience with extensive experience in spinal cord research;
• Skills and experience necessary for working with mice and rodents in a number of paradigms
• Ability to fulfil expectations of the role as outlined in the position description.

A PhD or equivalent in neuroscience or a highly related discipline is required.

Remuneration/Salary

 

Base Salary Range:


Level of appointment will be commensurate with level of experience and research track record.


$103,981 to $123,067 pa (Level B)


$125,150 to $143,725 pa (Level C)



This role also attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 3 years.
