Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking an enthusiastic and well-organised person to provide programme management for APPLE-Tree (Active Prevention in People at risk of dementia: Lifestyle, bEhaviour change and Technology to REducE cognitive and functional decline).


Our programme aims to develop manualised interventions to support older people who have memory problems to reduce their risk of getting dementia, through lifestyle and behavioural interventions. The successful applicant will carry out research work directly in the first 12 months of the study (qualitative interviews, systematic review and managing co-production of intervention). This will be alongside providing programme management across the project’s centres (University of East Anglia and Exeter in UK and international collaborators in Australia, France and USA). The post holder will line manage five 100% FTE pre-doctoral research assistants (two from 8 to 57 months; three from 12-40 months). There are training and development opportunities at UCL for all grades of researcher from PhD students to senior academics to develop capacity for future research in gerontology and dementia care.

This post is funded by the ESRC/NIHR until December 2023 in the first instance.

Key Requirements

Applicants are expected to have a PhD or equivalent, extensive clinical research and research management experience, including grant and resource management, and a commitment to improving life for older people through high quality research. They must also be able to demonstrate good management of both staff and data, with exceptional interpersonal skills, and ability to work professionally as part of a team, and with study participants.
