Education and research in sport sciences in Finland are concentrated at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences of the University of Jyväskylä. Physical activity and health, as well as their relationships and promotion, are explored there from a multidisciplinary perspective, with the improvement of health, functional ability and wellbeing across the human lifespan as the key aim.

An important national responsibility of the Faculty is teacher education in sport and health sciences. There are two main lines of study at the Faculty: Sport Sciences and Health Sciences. There are three disciplinary groups at the Faculty: Biology of Physical Activity, Behavioral and Social Sciences of Sport and Health Sciences. There are also three research centres at the Faculty: the Neuromuscular Research Center, the Gerontology Research Center and the Research Centre for Health Promotion.

Senior Researcher/Postdoctoral Researcher (“the position”) will contribute to the ongoing research of the FiDiPro IMPAct research group. The group conducts research in the fields of motivation of physical activity and behaviour change. The duties of the position focus on scientific research, including writing up current large-scale research projects for publication, planning future research projects, and applying for research funding. The researcher will also be required to contribute to administrative tasks and supervision of students and staff. The position may also include some teaching responsibilities, but the primary focus is on research. The position will suit a highly-motivated researcher interested in further expanding their research portfolio.

The duties and qualification requirements and language skills for the position are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and Language Skills Guidelines. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. The Senior Researcher is expected to have good skills in English language.

Applicants are required to have PhD in exercise psychology or related discipline (e.g., social psychology, health psychology) as well as experience in research in motivation and behaviour change. Evidence of leadership of research projects, scientific writing, participation in research projects, and applications for research funding will be considered as an advantage for the applicant. We value applicants with strong knowledge of theories of motivation and behaviour change and quantitative data analysis, excellent skills in scientific writing, and applying for external funding. The ideal applicant should have good ability to lead and manage research projects. The candidate will be expected to lead analysis and dissemination of data from the randomised controlled trial of the PETALS project, targeting the highest impact journals in the field.

The job-specific salary component of a Senior Researcher is based on the job demands level 5-7 (EUR 2935,55 - 3946,50/month) and that of a Postdoctoral Researcher on the job demands level 5-6 (EUR 2935,55 - 3423,25/month) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. In addition, a personal performance-based salary component amounting to 6-50% of the job-specific salary component is also paid. 

A trial period of six months will be used when the position is first filled.
